Quick Overview
Glimpses of Old Barbados Paperback – January 1, 1989
by Edward A. S.C.M. Stoute (Author)
From the Introduction: It has not been a long time since the Barbadian public as distinct from a small number of specially interested groups, has become interested in what may be called the fabric of the island’s history. No doubt, it required the catalyst of political independence to arouse the kind of interest which is taken for granted in other, older societies. But that interest was not of spontaneous combustion and certainly the most popular agent of its arousal has been Edward Stoute whose personal curiosity about Barbados and its many cultural manifestations has been matched by his gift for patient investigation. The result of this combination has been a series of popular articles in the local press which have attracted a wide readership. The present publication of Glimpses of Old Barbados – the original title has been retained – which represents only a selection of Edward Stoute’s articles has been undertaken by the Barbados National Trust as part of its philosophy of preserving and stimulating interest in the Barbadian cultural heritage.
